U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) announced this week that $3 million in congressionally directed funding will be provided to support the Bowie Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC) small business development.
Each year, the Federal Government awards about 10% of all federal contract dollars, or roughly $50 billion in contracts, to Small Disadvantaged Businesses. SBA’s Office of Government Contracting and Business Development monitors the progress of 24 Executive Branch agencies in contracting with Small Disadvantaged Businesses.
The Bowie Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC) in conjunction with Bowie State University has launched a Center of Excellence (COE) for 8(a) Government Contracting. The center is designed to help further BIC 8(a) program graduates with business development.
The Center of Excellence for 8(a) Government Contracting expands the Bowie BIC 8(a) Accelerator Program model through America’s HBCU network. The 8(a) COE is a place where HBCUs and 8(a) firms can collaborate to pursue federal procurement opportunities that advance efforts in research and development, entrepreneurship, and workforce development.
